Just an FYI, we've changed the sample requirements on the application to the following:

Samples
Please provide links to two samples of prose or action spam logging with four or more comments from your character. Action spam samples must be substantial enough to convey the character's personality and/or way of thinking. These samples can be linked from other communities, memes or museboxes. You may also link these samples from the Alpha Test Drive Meme.

OR

Provide one link to a prose log with four or more comments from your character (see specifications above) and provide a log sample (200 word minimum) with an introspective example of how your character would act/react within Alpha Complex's game setting.

Alpha is growing by leaps and bounds thanks to your word of mouth! Here are a couple of changes that have been made since the beginning of September.

  • The cap of three characters in game per player at a time has been changed to allow for more than three characters on a case by case basis. Rule #9 under Playable Characters has been changed to the following:
"Players may have up to three characters in the game at any given time. Requests for additional characters will be reviewed on a case by case basis, depending on player activity and character history. Please choose your characters carefully, apping and dropping a character in a short period of time doesn't help development for anyone involved."
The waiting period still applies to these additional characters. Meaning if you are approved for an additional character, you have to have met activity for all of your current characters for the current activity check period before bringing them in, or wait until successfully passing your first activity check for your most recently added character.

  • The rules in regards to failed activity checks has been changed. Rule #4 under Activity, Absences and Dropping has been changed to the following:
Characters who fail to remain active will be warned and players must meet activity for all of their failed characters within the following month post failed activity check. If they fail to meet activity within the next month, these characters will be dropped from the game.
This is to ensure that a character isn't held for four full months (or two activity periods) without meeting activity. Please don't hesitate to put your character on hiatus if you need to, or to discuss any issues with the mods early.

  • We now have a Mod Contact Post where you can reach myself or Jen for any Alpha questions or needs. Please also feel free to direct potential players here if they have any questions.

  • The Contact Page has been updated with details on how to join the Alpha Slack Chatroom. This is a great avenue for plotting and getting to know fellow players.

  • Steve Rogers, Alpha's very own #27, has been granted permission by the computer to form sort of a welcoming committee. Spencer (Steve-mun) explains this beautifully in this Out of Alpha Post she just made about it. If you're interested in having your character join or participate, please contact her at the post linked above, [plurk.com profile] flyawayblackbird, or pm [personal profile] a_man_out_of_time. Thank you, Spencer for putting this together for us!

If you have any questions or concerns about any of these changes, please let me know. As always, we value your feedback and your input. It's you amazing players who make this game great!

    Thank you,
    Sam

    One more announcement.

The rules have been updated to allow more flexibility in applying for second and third characters.

Under Playable Characters, rule #9b has been updated to say the following:
The player must have met activity check requirements for the current activity check period for each of their current characters or wait until successfully passing their first full activity check period for their most recently applied character before applying for another.

As a reminder, the minimum activity is as follows:
Minimum activity level is one network or log starter and 10 network comments or 5 log comments in a thread begun by another player. If you do not have 10 network comments in one thread, you may substitute two separate threads as long as combined they equal 15 network comments from your character. This is required for each character, per activity check.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me here, via pm or on plurk at samame.

There are some exciting things in the works behind the scenes here at Alpha, mostly thanks to the ideas and suggestions of you awesome players. I can't say enough how much I appreciate your input and excitement for the game. I am blown away by you guys on a daily basis.

But enough gushing! Below are some top levels to give you an opportunity to ask questions, give some feedback and basically spread the Alpha love.

    Alpha OCs.

Ever wanted to create an Alpha native who didn't get the special treatment and had to work their way up from the INFRARED vats? This will soon be a possibility! What we need to know is what information you need from us and Alpha to help shape these OC backgrounds/histories. What do you need to know about their childhoods? About Alpha dating customs? About the fastest way to be promoted from the vats? Ask all your Alpha questions here.

    Tropes, Plots & More.
Have an idea for a gamewide plot? Dream about making a trope come true for one of your characters? Have an awesome idea for a secret society coup? This is where you can make suggestions, or seek out collaborators to make your plot dreams come true.

    Adoptable NPCs
The goal of Alpha NPCs isn't to steal the show, but to help further plots and pass down information to characters in game. They are to act as external forces to help characters and story-lines move forward. That said, there is enough going on in Alpha that they may need to be played every once in a while for entertainment or plot purposes. This is just a list of NPCs that have been mentioned in game and are available as you may need them. These NPCs are also available for any player who would like to temporarily adopt them to play them against other players. Just let me know if you need them/would like to use them.

    Alpha Love
As the mod, I get to hear all the awesome feedback you guys have for the game and for each other, but this is a post where you guys can just love on each other's characters and the awesome CR you've managed to build in such a small amount of time. Don't be shy!

    Player Plots

I just wanted to drop a note about player plots. You are welcome and encouraged to develop your own player plots and side plots with your characters. I'm here to answer any questions you might have about the setting/ environment but otherwise, you are free to do what you'd like. The only thing I ask is that if there is going to be a large amount of destruction - a city block or more, or npc casualties - just run it by me first. Also, please be courteous to your fellow players and make sure to check with them first for permission if their characters are directly affected.

That said, I'm also trying to make a concentrated effort to give every character a side plot to get them more involved in the complex itself - either with a secret society plot or something that might effect the whole game. So if you have an idea for anything, or a circumstance you'd like to see come into play from the Computer itself or the world, please feel free to hit me up. I am already implementing some plots that were discussed in the plotting post before the game reopened. I'm excited about what the Specials are getting up to. My goal, however is to give every character their day. Though of course if you feel your character doesn't need these side plots, you are free to choose not to do a side plot.

    Hacking

Alpha is bound to draw hacking characters with a need for information. Below is a basic guide for hackers on what is accessible and non-accessible on the network. As a player, please assume that most secret society communication that isn't encrypted with the Specials tag is hackable and can be used against you by hacker types, unless you select the tag [no hacks]. If a post is hacked by a curious hacker, they will be required to indicate that they were there in some way with an ooc comment, or icon.

    Skill Level: High
  • Internal Security Reports - Clearance BLUE and lower
  • Free Enterprise encrypted communications
  • Purge encrypted communications
  • Corpore Metal encrypted communications
  • Specials encrypted one-on-one communication (with express permission of all players)

  • Skill level: Medium
  • Anti-mutant encrypted communications
  • Anti-specials encrypted communications
  • Psion encrypted communications
  • Pro-tech encrypted communications

  • Skill level: Low
  • Deathleopard encrypted communications
  • Frankenstien Destroyers encrypted communications
  • Psion encrypted communications
  • Mystics encrypted communications

  • Unhackable items: Nameless encrypted communications, Illuminati encrypted communications, Alpha Complex communications/information INDIGO and above, most Specials communication.

Items readable to all: Unencrypted items

I'll add this information to the mod journal for new players reference soon. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to comment here or contact me via pm or plurk.

If you have a hacker character, feel free to indicate their skill level on this post also for other players' reference.

    Thank you!
