Sept/Oct Test Drive Meme

Alpha Complex Test Drive Meme

Please feel free to take a Test Drive to see if the environment would suit your character! All potential players are welcome.

It may be your first day in Alpha Complex or your hundredth, either way, you are in serious trouble.

Scenario One
Your character has been accused of treason!

Whether the accusation is true or not, you are a wanted citizen!  Do you turn yourself over to IntSec (Internal Security) for questioning?  Do you make a run for it and go AWOL?  Will you fight for your right to exist or hole up somewhere safe until the chaos passes?  Do you become The Fugitive and try to prove your innocence?  Or are you guilty as hell and seeking help from friends or other parties who would be willing to assist you for a price?

Beware of the security cameras everywhere - some of which actually work - and being spotted by citizens who might be willing to turn you in to gain points with The Computer or to prove their own loyalty.

Scenario Two
Your character has been given the mission to hunt down a traitor!

It is your job to hunt down and apprehend the traitor by any means necessary.  If you fail or refuse, you might be accused of being a traitor yourself.  It doesn't matter if the person you are hunting is innocent or had good reasons for their treason.  It doesn't matter if their crime was major or some minor form of treason, Friend Computer wants their head.  You have twenty four hours to complete your mission.

Please post your character name and fandom in the subject line.
Work Together. Turn On Each Other. Survive.

The voice sounds insistent, clipped and urgent; a chill runs down Kara's spine as she dangles from the windowsill. Adrenaline has gotten her this far, but without superhuman strength to call on, she's only managed to haul herself a few feet up in the air. It's not exactly covert.

Her shoes catch against an exposed piece of what looks like brick. It should be solid enough, should hold her weight enough to be used as leverage to help her climb another half-foot of wall, to get her hands looped around the windowsill enough to pull her body up and over. But, since nothing in this dark cave of doom and gloom can ever be quite right, the exposed material is neither sturdy nor strong. It's probably a weak imitation of the real thing — HappyPaste or GoodWall or some forcefully positive nomenclature that sounds neither happy nor good.

The material crumbles under her weight, pieces of heavy, dark rock clanging against each surface it bounces off of, and Kara's thudding heartbeat goes into overdrive.

There's no way whoever's chasing her didn't hear that.

There’s no way that Steve didn’t hear that.

Even through the blare of the sirens, he can hear the thump and crash of what sounds like brick, or imitation brick from just around the corner. It’s the only signal he needs to take off in that direction in full force.

When he finally sees her — Kara Danvers, as it says on the report he was given — trying to escape from the window, arms dangling from the bars as her feet scrape against the wall, Steve hesitates.

What could this girl have possibly- No, it doesn’t matter. The Computer isn’t stupid, but she’s crazy. Kara could have just said the wrong thing at the wrong time and the treasonous bells would be rung.

“Kara Danvers,” he says, taking a step closer to her. Steve could pull her down, but he’d rather she come down herself. “That window flips you out of this sector and into the street. People who live in the subsectors will turn you in immediately. There’s no time. Come with me now if you don’t want to be arrested.”

Footsteps closing in behind her, the sound of boots coming to a rest directly underneath her; Kara can't help the nervous racing of her heart, or the way her breath seems to catch in her throat as she clings to the windowsill. The immediate sensation of being watched, observed, cornered swells in her chest when he calls her name.

Why should I trust you? comes that voice from inside her head, fearful and angry at the same time. She's not illegal. People can't be illegal, they're people. She's just new, trying to figure out where she belongs. How could the Computer find fault in that?

Another memory — another glitch — burns in her mind. The opening of a door, blinding yellow stars — but no, it was just one star, she remembers that clearly — and the extending of a hand to help her up. What had she been in?

Steve may not be literally holding out a hand, but the sentiment remains the same. Turn towards assumed safety, or keep running into the blinding light. Kara hesitates for a long moment, swallowing down the tight feeling in her throat, before releasing her grip on the windowsill.

It's a long drop, but for some reason Kara can't figure out, she isn't afraid of getting hurt.

"It's Kah-rah," she replies, sounding the slightest bit tired of making the correction, but leaves it at that. "Why am I being arrested?"

She actually lets go of the window as he'd hoped, and Steve hadn't consciously planned on doing this, but when he actually sees her falling, Steve instinctually steps forward to try and catch her.

Once she lands, whether it's in his arms or not, it becomes a lot more obvious that Steve is tall and large and blonde. With big, blue eyes. But he's concerned, and obviously so, about her.

"Kara," he repeats, correctly this time, because it seems important to her, even when she's running for her life, and Steve's goal is to getting her to come with him.

"I'm afraid I don't know why, but I can buy you some time so we can find out. If I had to guess-"

He starts walking then, either after he's let her out of his arms or because she's landed on her own, but he starts walking mid-sentence because they don't have time to stand here out in the open.

"-it's probably something you said. Who have you talked to today?"

And when they really start walking, they start winding their way around. Steve is stopped and turning and checking things like he knows this place inside and out. But never do they start walking too fast. Their pace is controlled. Steve's done this before.
