July/August Test Drive Meme

Alpha Complex Test Drive Meme

Alpha Complex opened Sunday, July 31st. Please feel free to take a Test Drive to see if the environment would suit your character! All potential players are welcome.

It may be your first day in Alpha Complex or your hundredth, either way, you are in serious trouble.

In a bid to win sympathy and new recruits, the Frankenstein Destroyers - a secret society within Alpha who sees all bots as enemies, has uploaded a virus that is affecting all bots within the complex.

For the next twenty four hours, every bot you see will be the enemy. Your assigned Personal Digital Companion(PDC), a personal communication device, has turned on you and is intentionally misfiring your texts, phone calls and videos. The Bouncy Bubble Beverage machine in the cafeteria is shooting out bottles at passers by at high speeds. The high tech vacuum cleaner used to vacuum your clearance level's common room is attempting to suck up everything in sight. Elevators are trying to coerce people to climb out, so they can behead them. That adorable Petbot you purchased last week is trying to tear your throat out. That Guardbot from the Armed Services Sector is attempting to take out citizens, one by one. Autocars are driving themselves, right onto sidewalks and through windows...

Will you fight for your right to exist or hole up somewhere safe until the chaos passes?

Do not fear, citizen! The Computer and it's high advisors are working to restore order.

In the meantime, be safe and beware of bots and traitors!

Please post your character name and fandom in the subject line.
Mingle Together. Explore Together. Adventure Together.

This place was so messed up, Cisco didn't even know where to begin. And he'd been to Earth 2, so that was saying a lot. The bots were on the warpath, like every last one of them was dipped in crazy juice overnight or something, and for the most part, he'd been trying to give all of the especially dangerous malfunctions a wide berth. He didn't have any of his cool toys like the Vibe glasses — honestly, let Earth 2 deal with a soda slinging vending machine or two; suck on that. — or the stolen heat and cold guns — which he still totally meant to rebuild. He was definitely going to do that, really. Soon. He really would. — to fight them off, so it was just easier to avoid them.

Until, you know, he couldn't anymore. The security bots were the worst ones. Cisco was on his way to his room from his troubleshooting station when he stumbled across her, crouched down in front of the pathetic remains of one of the security bots and...was that— was she...

"Ohhh," he moaned out, crouching to join her. "I've been dying to see the inside of one of these bad boys since I got here! Did you do this? High five!" he offered excitably, holding up a hand in the air. Don't leave him hanging, Holtzmann, that would be embarrassing.

Holtzmann straightened up so quickly she almost bounced, lifting her hand to give the requested five. She realised just in time that she was still holding the metal pipe and made a little 'oops' face, spinning it behind her back like it was a proton wand and shoving it into her back pocket for safekeeping (where it leaned dangerously given the pocket was not deep enough to properly hold a three foot piece of pipe). Once it was successfully secured away, she slapped Cisco's hand with probably more force than was really necessary, beaming.

"Yea I did this! Step right up and take a look inside the treasure chest with me why don't you?" she stepped back a little to allow him a good view of her fallen foe as well, dropping back down onto her haunches to inspect it once again.

Smirking, Cisco held up his other hand defensively until she stowed away the pipe and then he let it fall away. Enthusiastic, sweet; Cisco loved it when other people geeked out over potential new toys like he tended to and a split open security bot was exactly that: a bunch of parts to make new toys.

"Bad ass," he replied approvingly. "I wonder if somebody could cannibalize bro-bot's AI to soup up some existing tech..." he muttered, mostly to himself, but still loud enough to be overheard. "I'm Cisco. Cisco Ramon," he introduced with a smile, looking over at her for a moment before giving his focus back to the mess of metal on the floor. "Man, I wish I had my lab back home right about now...the things I could do with this tech..."

"Oooh, you and me both," Holtzmann agreed longingly "You'd love to be part of my proton packs, wouldn't you?" she added, speaking directly to the bot's innards now, running an affectionate hand across the circuitry.

"Dr Jillian Holtzmann," she introduces herself with a brief flash of a smile before turning her attention back to the downed bot "Call me Holtzmann, or Holtz if you like." she reaches into the bot to start tugging out parts, apparently without much regard for what she was doing, but if Cisco was watching closely he'd notice she knew just wear to yank or tear or break to take out full components without really damaging the important bits.

"Felicity, a beautiful name for a beautiful girl." Nick's grin is still in place, he just can't help himself. Her embarrassment, and the fact that it is written on her face, is something he can't help but get a bit of a kick out of. Nick's always had an effect on women, or at least that's what his memory tells him. "It's very nice to meet you too."

It feels natural to be so flirty, so Nick's best guess is that he is a flirt. The idea definitely isn't disappointing, either way.

Tilting his head a little bit, and looking back at the vacuum cleaner Nick can't control the laugh before it escapes. God, he has no idea whether or not this is a regular occurrence, but it's hard not to see the humor. "You know, I'm not totally sure. Not in my recollection, but....you know how well we can really trust that, yeah?" Nick shrugs, knowing that it isn't the most helpful answer he's ever given.

"If it is someone's not very good at their job, though." The joke rolls out without thought, followed briefly by a moment of curiosity as to whether that's considered traitorous. Oh well.

Shiro groans to himself at the group of what seems like headless chickens in the middle of the corridor. He skids to a halt, readying the blaster he took from a Guardbot's corpse just a few minutes ago, when he hears the voice.

Okay, at least he's not entirely alone in wanting these people to move. "This way!" he shouts from behind the group, motioning towards the dorm he just secured when they start turning around. "Come on, there's no time to waste!"

He pushes past them as they start moving, finally, finding a girl there, with a bow and arrows and three more Guardbots, one of them with an arrow going straight through its chest. "Nice shot," Shiro says mindlessly before firing at the same target, his hand steady as ever.

She's very grateful for being let off the hook. She'll repay him some day when he puts his foot in his mouth.

"That's me. Good Decision Girl," she quips. She tilts her head, pretending to consider his proposal before grinning. "Give me a bot and two minutes. I'll have you something to use for batting practice." Which clearly means 'come on, let's go'. She gets to get feet, grabbing up the robot arm again. "Stick close to me."

Cisco is thinking sticking some of that artificial intelligence into the suit could really give Barry an extra set of advantages over the other metahumans. If the suit itself could communicate with Barry, it would be a lot more efficient. He and Caitlin could be thinking aloud at one another like they always do, and the suit could just suss out the important stuff and tell Barry.

But he's distracted at her response. "Proton pack?" he asks, intrigued. "I'm listening...you got my attention for real, now." Because that sounds interesting.

Cisco nods, eyes moving back to the machine as she expertly plucks out parts. He'll pillage from the next one; she earned this one. "Holtz, got it. Mechanical engineer?" he guesses. The way she knows just what to take and what to work around suggests she, like Cisco, knows because it's her job to know.

Belatedly, Cisco realizes that it's probably going to hurt him more than it hurts the robots to bust them up like that, but on the plus side, he can steal parts.

This time, he does laugh. "That is literally the worst name for a bot-destroying bad ass, geez, do I have to do everything, Buffy? Honestly," he teases. He follows her to the door. "Listen, cover me while I snag parts? I want to see what makes them tick, because then maybe we can figure out how to fix the bug making them wig out."

"Proton pack, yes," Holtzmann nodded, glancing up at him with a grin "Just a happy little gadget I cooked up, helps us catch ghosts," she was still grinning, but her tone was matter-of-fact, it was clear she wasn't joking. "I'll go over it sometime if you like, it's some pretty exciting stuff." And she enjoyed nothing more than explaining all her wonderful toys.

"And theoretical physicist," she added, nodding in confirmation as to his first guess "Also, ghostbuster." she continued after a moment's pause, it was what everybody knew her for these days, she may as well own the title - even if it didn't quite have any relevance here. "How about you, enquiring minds want to know?"

[personal profile] namegenerator 2016-07-25 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Cisco grins and looks playfully suspicious. "Stop it," he says, shaking his head. The tone doesn't suggest he doesn't believe her so much as exactly the opposite being true in spite of the fact that he maybe shouldn't believe it as easily as he does. Most people wouldn't. Cisco isn't most people. "If I like, she says," he adds with an amused huff. "Uh, yeah."

He looks impressed at the clarification he gets. "Mechanical engineer; focused in advanced weapons design and development," he answers with a shrug, "and Team Flash," he adds for good measure.

[personal profile] newtoys 2016-07-25 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)

"You stop it," she grins back, tossing something at him that, on closer inspection, would turn out to be the broken half of a circuitboard from the robot's body. Her tearing of the remaining pieces might be carefully and precisely done, but the same could not have been said of her initial strikes with the pipe, and there are a few minor components that are slightly damaged beyond repair.

"Excellent," she crows, delighted, at both the idea that he wanted to hear about her tech and the 'advanced weapons' part of his little introduction, she was a girl who enjoyed a good weapon after all "Flash, ah-ah, saviour of the universe?" she questions with a curious tilt of her head.

[personal profile] namegenerator 2016-07-25 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Literally, no one has ever thrown that back at him and Cisco laughs. Holtz. He likes Holtz. He's totally keeping her. Cisco catches the piece and looks it over. There's really no salvaging it, but he pockets the piece anyway, figuring that in a worst case scenario, maybe he can compare it with pieces on the line at troubleshooting and figure out what exactly it does once he finds an aesthetic match. Curious mind and all.

His eyebrows lift a little. If Holtz is from his Earth, then he feels like she'd already have been working at S.T.A.R. Labs with a mind and a drive like that. At least, from what he can tell so far. So he's a little surprised when she mentions Flash, like she knows of him. "The Flash? Yeah, pretty much. He's a good friend of mine." His best friend, really, besides Caitlin.

That's what he's got her to do the busting. She'll bust. He'll steal.

"Okay," she says with a hint of a challenge in her voice. "What would you call me? I mean, in addition to Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and The Chosen One?" She nods a little. "Consider yourself covered." And she starts out the door, robot arm raised. She's going to stick to the walls.

It's not long until they're attacked. Buffy will do her best to keep the bot away from Cisco as she pummels, pounds and kicks.

Tony barely nods in acknowledgement when Steve answers that they won't be having any company soon, but he visibly relaxes at the news that the couple had been saved. Good. He still isn't sure why in the hell the bot had started to attack them, but he's just glad that they're alright.

He doesn't quite get to ask, though, because suddenly Steve is leading him away, and for a moment Tony actually considers not following. He even opens his mouth to tell him as much, but one look at his surroundings makes him change his mind.

With a sigh under his breath, Tony moves along with Steve until they're in the safe house. Tony's confusion hasn't eased - if anything, it feels as if it has heightened, and he frowns. "Alright, spill. What the hell is going on?"

A glitch, a voice in his head tries to remind him, but it's crap. This isn't a glitch. Maybe he has finally reached the point of sleep deprivation where now he's just hallucinating this whole thing.

Cisco moves with her and huffs an incredulous laugh. "How the crap am I supposed to nickname you before I see you in action? Do you know how much thought goes into naming metahumans? A lot. A lot of thought, Buffy, I do not take this job lightly, you know," he tells her with feigned seriousness in his tone.

He stays close but a few steps behind her, because hey, he has no problem letting a girl be the bad ass right now, especially when she's the one with the makeshift weapon. It doesn't take long before they come face to face with one of the security bots and Cisco ducks reflexively the first time Buffy swings the disembodied robot arm at the thing.

Until he has a weapon, too, then he's just going to stay the hell out of the way and let Buffy do her thing.

Wha--

[ If Barry had his speed, a spinning bottle of bouncy beverage coming straight at his face wouldn't be an issue. As it is, however, he barely has time to register that the Oi, you! is meant for him before he's clocked by a bottle of Classic Bouncy beverage.

He goes down with a groan, sprawled out across the floor as the bottle rolls away seemingly unharmed. ]

"Yea, I do, slightly better than this," he admitted, waving a hand at the ensemble. It wasn't the worst home-made costume ever invented, but it was definitely nowhere near his regular uniform. What he wouldn't give for Alfie to show up and make him a new suit... or Fox, to make him better gadgets, for that matter. His were great and all, but they paled in comparison to the tech he got to use at home "I work with Batman." he added, in case she was from a universe where the name was recognisable. Robin on its own didn't always catch people's attention (much to his chagrin, maybe he ought to change his name to something more unique), but Batman usually did.

"I've been here since the beginning. Well, not the beginning, but the first lot of specials."

"If I get caught, we'll..." She's searching for an actually passable answer. "We'll...just say it was a glitch?" It's the first moment since she saw Cisco that she looks to him for advice. "Too...reckless?"

If hacking the PDCs were off-limits, Felicity didn't have a better plan. In fact, she didn't have any other plan.

Cisco's eyebrows lift as Felicity stalls, trying to come up with an answer. He looks doubtful when he gets one. "I...yeah, that's probably really risky..."

He doesn't think that they have to give up on that plan, they just have to rework it.

"You know how to cover your tracks, though, right? I mean, when you're hacking into things you're not supposed to be getting access to, you can cover your tracks with proxies, right? Or whatever? God, it's been a long time since I've done any of that sort of stuff..." He can't even remember if that's the right terminology; he's been building things too long and he's lost his touch with the slang in the world of hackers.
smoak: (i own everything)

[personal profile] smoak 2016-07-30 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks at him blankly for a moment, before she chuckles. God it was good to have him here with her.

"Against another hacker, I have no doubt that I can cover my tracks." Felicity glances back at her PDC. "I've just never gone against the computer itself. If it has the ability to constantly monitor activity from these devices, then I don't know how I could get far without getting shut down..."

Another series of barks comes from outside the door. When Felicity hears them, her eyes suddenly lock onto Cisco's.

"Oh my god. I have an idea." But neither of them was going to like the first part. "We need to use the robodog."

Okay Felicity, start from the beginning. Explain your whole idea.

"We need to distract the Computer. If multiple devices all over the Complex are being hacked, the Computer will eventually shut them all down. BUT, it might seem like a second system-wide malfunction, instead of a particular hack on a particular device." Namely, their PDCs. "If we capture that dog, and if you disassemble it and get me its microprocessor, I can re-program it to run around the complex and broadcast a virus to every bot it runs past."

A beat, and a gulp.

"But we have to catch that dog first. Before it bites either one of us."

[personal profile] namegenerator 2016-07-30 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Cisco cocks his eyebrows and gives a little shrug as if to silently say "okay yeah, that's a good point," but he doesn't actually say that, instead opting for something slightly more optimistic.

"I mean...the Computer is really nothing more than a glorified hacker without the typical limitations of a human hacker, right? If you can—"

His words falter at the sound of the dog outside, but before he can get back on track, Felicity's saying she's got an idea and the last thing he wants to do is derail it by continuing his own thought. His expression goes from excited to completely put out in about 0.5 seconds.

She wants to use the dog? Oh man...

Though, that idea...that's...

"That's genius. Stop it, that's genius!" he exclaims, the grin returning. Look, how hard can it be to catch a robot dog that's already outside their door trying to get in?

"Okay, all right. That's easy. It wants to get in, right? So we let it in the room. We just...uh. Okay..."

He looks around the room as if in search of something to knock the damn thing off its feet because, look, it's a freaking robot. It's probably going to need a little help getting back upright; he doubts it'll be able to do it on its own right away.

Cisco grabs the little metal folding chair propped up against the wall. He's not sure what these people think one chair is going to be good for in a room that typically is meant to house five people, but he's not asking questions. "Get up on the bed. The top bunk," he tells her.

Yeeaaaah. Nick definitely has an effect on women.

Compared to the guys she normally hangs out with, Nick was really laying it on thick with his triple usage of "beautiful" in one conversation, and general flirtatious flair. It was both flattering and overwhelming.

Her eyes followed at him as he laughed and answered her question. Ugh, and that little smirky grin he had on — endearingly lovable, and very, very easy to focus on. But at the end of his answer, she realizes that he can't answer, because it sounds like he hasn't been around here for long.

"Is it your first day too? With the full orientation and everything?" She gestured a lot when she spoke. This time, her fingers drew a rectangle in the air as she talked, referring to the humongous T.V. they needed to watch those history videos on.
smoak: (playful)

[personal profile] smoak 2016-07-30 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
As soon as she sees him grin, she does so too. It also helps that he just said her idea was genius. Twice.

When he goes to grab the chair and tells her to climb to the top bunk, she nods and starts for the ladder. For the first time since she got here, Felicity's actually thankful that she was wearing a red jumpsuit with tennis shoes, instead of her usual designer dress and heels.

It takes her maybe 15 seconds to get to the bunk. "Okay Cisco. You got this." She's guessing that the plan here is to have the little robot try to go for her, and Cisco is going to valiantly whack it with the chair.

"I'm guessing they wiped your memory. And then put you through the orientation video again." He's seen it before. Multiple times with people he knows. It was painful, and that pain was becoming routine.

"As far as I can tell, no one's been able to disprove the story the Computer tell us. But I know in my gut Tony, that it doesn't sit right."

He gestures towards their surroundings.

"Everywhere we go, there are cameras watching. This is one of two places where that isn't true. Some of the other 'Specials' — that's what they're calling us — built it, sweeped it, and keep it protected."
