July/August Test Drive Meme

Alpha Complex Test Drive Meme

Alpha Complex opened Sunday, July 31st. Please feel free to take a Test Drive to see if the environment would suit your character! All potential players are welcome.

It may be your first day in Alpha Complex or your hundredth, either way, you are in serious trouble.

In a bid to win sympathy and new recruits, the Frankenstein Destroyers - a secret society within Alpha who sees all bots as enemies, has uploaded a virus that is affecting all bots within the complex.

For the next twenty four hours, every bot you see will be the enemy. Your assigned Personal Digital Companion(PDC), a personal communication device, has turned on you and is intentionally misfiring your texts, phone calls and videos. The Bouncy Bubble Beverage machine in the cafeteria is shooting out bottles at passers by at high speeds. The high tech vacuum cleaner used to vacuum your clearance level's common room is attempting to suck up everything in sight. Elevators are trying to coerce people to climb out, so they can behead them. That adorable Petbot you purchased last week is trying to tear your throat out. That Guardbot from the Armed Services Sector is attempting to take out citizens, one by one. Autocars are driving themselves, right onto sidewalks and through windows...

Will you fight for your right to exist or hole up somewhere safe until the chaos passes?

Do not fear, citizen! The Computer and it's high advisors are working to restore order.

In the meantime, be safe and beware of bots and traitors!

Please post your character name and fandom in the subject line.

Showoff, Tony thinks to himself, but it's not a bad thing. Hell, right now he's just glad he has a shot at taking down the Guardbot.

That's why, when he sees the opening that the makeshift shield had left behind, Tony's quick to move as the robot seems to try to decide where to attack first. Tony doesn't wait to see what it decides before he's leaping forward, almost straddling it with his legs so that he could use his hands to rip at the wiring. It's probably careless, how he just blindly pulls at wires and yanks them out as best as he can, but the Guardbot finally powers down and that's good enough for him.

Leaping back down, he looks around as if to check if there are any other crazy bots coming their way. "...are there more of these things around?"

"Oh, okay. All right," Cisco says reflexively, hugging her back, "that happened. Hey, it's okay, we're gonna be fine. We're two of the smartest people I know," he assures her. And yeah, that little addendum stings a little, but he smiles, shaking his head anyway when she explains after pulling out of the hug.

His head turns a little, reflexively, at the metallic bark outside the door. "It's cool, Felicity, I got you. I'm glad to see you, too." Just like she'd probably rather he be Oliver, he'd really rather she be Caitlin, but he's still happy to see her; he gets it.

"Are you new? I just got here. Or...just regenerated...or...you know, whatever happens, I'm still a little fuzzy on that whole thing," he admits.
smoak: (who me?)

When she hears him repeat her terrible, terrible pun, Felicity would like nothing more than to disappear in a puff of smoke — like when Oliver uses one of his smoke-bomb arrow tips. But no. Not even the Arrow could save her from herself.

"Felicity Smoak," she offers a little too quickly. "Nice to meet you-" She's doing her best to smile, not too embarrassingly. '-Nick."

She points, delicately, to the little vacuum that couldn't, a look of slight concern in her eyes. "May I ask ... is this a regular occurrence here?"

She smiles at "smartest people I know," which makes her feel extra bad for how those words came out. So it makes her cling onto Cisco's shoulders a little longer than normal, her lips forming a small frown. But when he asks her about just getting here, she perks up.

"Yeah, I guess 'new' is what they'd tell us we were, isn't it? Once I realized no one was going to point a gun at me until I signed ... I may have subjected myself to a few unnecessary additional hours of ... brainwashing." She rolled her eyes at the last part. "Cisco, you don't believe them do you?"

Felicity doesn't buy it. That speaks volumes to Cisco, actually, because he trusts her opinion. She really is one of the smartest people he knows — at least he thinks she is; he's trying to reprogram himself in the midst of the conversation. Back to the way he used to think — and if she doesn't believe the orientation, then he probably shouldn't, either.

"...well, I did, but now you're here and you're clearly not a glitch, so..." he admits, his voice trailing off a little. "It doesn't make sense for a 'glitch' to show up and recognize me, so I guess not so much anymore," he finishes.

"I'd usually defer to Caitlin on this, but my best guess is that yes, if we're waking up in some ... futuristic dystopia, that cloning our bodies would be the easiest part of the process. But cloning all of our memories? There's no way they could have access to that much information."

She gives him a gentle squeeze.

"And it's not as if I have one or two misplaced memories and an otherwise blank slate. I remember so much Cisco, and not just about people. About computers and how to use them. If I can get my hands on her servers, oh you just wait."

She remembers Caitlin, too; Caitlin who, until right then with Felicity's mention, Cisco assumes that he'd invented as a way to have some sort of strong bond with a sibling to replace the one he didn't have with his brother. He did have a brother. Caitlin was real. Felicity is real. This is real...and messed up.

"Man, having Barry here right now would be really convenient…" he mutters, half to himself and half as a test to see if Barry — if the Flash — is a memory or a glitch. Which parts are real and which are manufactured? Now he's got to sort through everything and pick his entire brain apart before he can put it back together. Crap, he should've just followed his initial instincts and pretended he believed. Now he's allowed himself to be subjected to so much brainwashing that, even though his gut tells him Felicity is right and it's all memories, part of him still thinks there could be pieces that really don't belong to him, and it'll be better to isolate and then forget them than to mix them up with the real memories.

"All right, well...we don't need Caitlin and Barry to be Team Genius, right? So, temporarily setting Teams Arrow and Flash on the backburner, let's do our own thing and find you those servers, then," he says, pulling back from her and starting toward the door, reaching a hand to the knob.

Another metallic bark, this time coupled with the awkward thumping of the freaking thing jumping at the door to be let in, stops him in his tracks. Cisco reaches that same hand up to scratch the back of his head and turns back to her with a sheepish smile. "Later. We should, you know, plan first. Right? Right. We should create a plan before we execute a non-existent one," he excuses his forgetfulness and fear of the Petbot casually.

She's had control of her power for years, for the most part anyway. Not to mention, she's always been careful attacking humans, and as far as she knows this guy is a human. One wearing a mask...

"Hal?" she finishes his sentence. "I noticed." She's definitely a special by this place's (or really any place's) standards. She also knows a little about the special network and the other specials here, but she doesn't know this guy. She tilts her head at him and shakes his hand.

"Buffy. Nice to meet you and thanks for the assist on the crazed bot thing."
whattingawhat: (She will be loved)

[personal profile] whattingawhat 2016-07-22 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd heard they were doing that, but I haven't seen it. The guard bots are also attacking and the vending machine has aspirations of being an automatic machine gun. In here is safer." It doesn't seem as if anything is attacking in here and now she's here so that makes him safer. She's assuming he's not a special, but she doesn't know that for sure.

She ducks her head, grinning at that. She might even blush a little. "You'll be my first pick." Especially since he rolls over so that his back is to her. It's sweet and endearing and not something a lot of guys his age would do. "Thanks," she says quietly as she grabs another jumpsuit and quickly strips out of the sticky one. She steps into the clean one and zips it up, then reaches for a brush. "You're good now," she tells him as she takes her hair out of it's pony tail and starts brushing it. "You never told me your name."

Cisco takes in a deep breath and lets it out in a huff. "Yeah, so...that's an actual thing that's happening, yes," he confirms. "I heard about the vending machine. I was about to call bullshit, but then you busted in here covered in soda and started taking your clothes off, so..." He smirks a little, mostly because he's teasing.

"A wise decision, Buffy. A very wise decision," he says playfully and he does mean playfully, because Cisco probably couldn't play ball if someone paid him to try. He didn't suck too bad at tee ball when he was four, but he hasn't played since, so it's his best guess that he'd be awful now. Especially without the tee.

"No problem." At her prompt, Cisco rolls over again to face her. "Crap, I didn't, did I? Sorry. Cisco. Cisco Ramon. Nice to meet you."

Dick snorted, amused at the comment, he always enjoyed a good pop culture reference. Not least because it was the quickest way to confirm a fellow special, it wasn't that pop culture didn't exist here in the complex, but it was an entirely different kettle of fish to what he was used to back home.

"Any time, it's kind of what I do, although you did seem to pretty much have it in hand," he admitted, "You been stuck in this place for long?"

whattingawhat: (Flirty)

[personal profile] whattingawhat 2016-07-22 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not even sure that's the weirdest thing that's ever attacked me," she responds then rolls her eyes at him, managing to mostly not blush at that reminder. "Pleased to provide you with proof of the craziness outside these walls." Teasing is okay. She appreciates it most of the time.

Buffy would still pick him for her baseball team because she likes him so far. Besides, she's (probably) good enough at that sort of thing for the both of them. She'll just have to make sure she doesn't accidentally hurt someone.

She smiles at him. "It's okay. We've already established you were distracted." Now she's teasing him (and flirting a little, which she tends to do with cute boys and usually awkwardly). "It's nice to meet you too," she assures him as she starts combing through her hair, grateful that she didn't leave it down today.
whattingawhat: (The buck stops here)

[personal profile] whattingawhat 2016-07-22 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It was such a part of Buffy and how she spoke, she was not entirely sure she could speak if she couldn't use pop culture references. Yeah, she didn't usually get the pop culture here. It would almost seem like it was something from home then blam it went into left field.

"It's sort of what I do back home too. Minus the robots. Well...usually minus the robots." She tilted her head at him. "Do you do the mask thing back home too?" And oh, right that was generally a good question to know and ask. "A week or so. Not terribly long. You?"
namegenerator: (04)

[personal profile] namegenerator 2016-07-22 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Definitely not the craziest thing that's ever attacked me or mine, so I get you. Just saying," Cisco says, still grinning. If the worst in this place is a rogue vending machine and cars, he figures there's worse places to be stuck in the interim between now and when he gets home.

Letting out a hearty laugh, Cisco leans his head back with it for a moment before looking back at her. "Oh, it's like that now? I see how it is. It's like that, okay," he says playfully. "So long have you been enjoying the privacy my presence is obliterating?" he wonders aloud. How long has she been here, exactly?
whattingawhat: (Beautiful girl)

[personal profile] whattingawhat 2016-07-22 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
She can't help but grin at that. "I think you're going to fit in here just fine, Cisco." Probably better than fine with that attitude. She's not sure it will be easy for him, but is it for anyone?

She grins and shrugs as if to say 'yeah, it's like that'. She doesn't mind it being like that. She thinks about it a moment. "A week and a half, maybe two. I kind of lose track of time here, at least time spent here."
namegenerator: (01)

[personal profile] namegenerator 2016-07-22 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
He isn't sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, really, considering the place they're in, but he takes it as a compliment, because he's pretty sure that's how she means it. "Small favors, huh? Nothing worse than being the awkward new kid nobody likes."

Cisco appreciates her sense of humor and willingness to go with the flow he's throwing down. They're going to get along just fine. He's never had a roommate that was a girl before, but Cisco gets the feeling this arrangement is going to work out just fine. "Oh good, that'll make time either fly or crawl, I guess..."
whattingawhat: (Someday)

[personal profile] whattingawhat 2016-07-22 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
She definitely means it as a compliment. "Well, I like you so you don't have to worry about that," she tells him. Her nose scrunches up a bit then. "Not that I've ever really been in the popular crowd. At least not since the whole slay girl thing happened." It had ceased to bother her a long time ago. She hadn't wanted to run with Harmony's crowd. She still didn't, come to think of it.

She's a flow girl. Or...you know, good at going with the flow. Something like that. She thinks they're going to get along too. They already are, so that's a good indication of future relationship type things, right? She's never had a roommate that was a boy either, so they're very same boat-y. She's got a good feeling about it in any case. "Like a turtle," she quips. "Because...turtles crawl. Sort of? They're slow?" Words. Buffy can do them.

Cisco smirks. "One is better than none, especially when she's pretty," he says with a casual shrug that doesn't match the smirk at all. He thinks himself a ladies man, in spite of the fact that he's proven time and time again that he very much...isn't.

The fact that she's still talking to him is a miracle in and of itself, if only because he hasn't managed to say something horribly off-putting in an attempt to be flirtatious. That seems to get him every time. "I'll take it. I'd have gone with snail, personally, but they don't crawl, I guess, so turtle is totally on the board."
smoak: (oh no)

[personal profile] smoak 2016-07-23 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
There's a moment, when Cisco mentions Barry, that Felicity's eyes light up, but she doesn't say anything. Instead, she just listens, and nods, until Cisco seems to have a sudden surge of courage and wants to open the door. "Wait-."

And then the dog barks, throws itself against the door, and Cisco's hand is suddenly back behind his head.

"Right. Absolutely. We should totally create a plan. Especially before trying to leave this room."

Once the door is locked, she pulls Cisco away from it, towards one of the desks. Then, she takes out her PDC. "Whatever is going on, I'm sure that both Barry and Oliver are already looking for us. Right now, step one is making this stupid thing work again. Maybe I can hack it to send a message to the outside. Do you have any idea why it suddenly started glitching in the first place?"
namegenerator: (10)

[personal profile] namegenerator 2016-07-23 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
At least she's willing to let that slide without picking on him. Score one for Felicity.

"Right," he agrees again, leaning against the desk and looking back at her as she takes out the PDC. He's still really mad at his and the frustration instantly shows on his face.

Shaking his head, Cisco frowns. "It was like that when I got here, I have no idea. What if it's a trap to test you and you get caught hacking the Computer?" he asks. "Not that I'm saying no or we shouldn't, just saying we should work that possibility into our plan so that we have a contingency, right?"

"You just got Holtzmanned, baby!" she crowed at a security bot laying in pieces at her feet, admittedly it a was a phrase she'd used before and she didn't want to exactly get into catchphrase territory (though, as catchphrases went, it wasn't that bad), but nobody was around who had heard it before so it was basically like it was happening for the first time, right?
She just wished she had her guns with her, or her proton pack at all really, the protonic streams weren't designed to be used on electronic equipment officially, but they damn well wouldn't do it any good.

Still, she'd located a blow torch and a length of pipe and what more did you really need? She was feeling some serious post-apocalyptic war zone vibes right now and kind of wanted to go hunting for some more security bots to destroy, she'd already ripped the innards out of her PDC (but that had more to do with interest in what made it tick/scavenging parts than stopping it from malfunctioning) and-

"Hello, what do we have here, such interesting circuits you have my little friend," murderous reign of robotic terror temporarily halted (or holtzed), she crouched down to look at the freshly revealed interior of her recently defeated foe. Now, that was some interesting tech.

Regardless of whether it was careless, it certainly looked careless. But when it came to tearing out wires (as opposed to tearing off heads), Steve left the decision-making to Tony. Even if he worried sometimes.

"Not that I know of. And the couple you saved, they're safe."

A few glances down the hall and Steve sees the entrance to a staircase.

"C'mon Tony. Come with me." The Captain walks past him, keeping a quick pace. The stairs lead down the basement, around a few corners to a safe house. There were no bots, some food, and breathing room.

"Wow!" Shiro manages to avoid the bottle coming at him at high speed, but only barely, crouching as the bottle smashes against the wall above his head, showering him in unnaturally pink liquid. "Careful!"

He can see the woman from a way away, smacking bottles as they come at her, and if he had the time. he'd appreciate her aim, but. He's got doors to unlock. Man, if only Pidge was here - she's the one with the better hacking skills.

He locates the control panel easily, breaking it open with his cybernetic arm. "Okay, how does this work..."

Oooh they've entered obvious flirting territory. It's been awhile since Buffy's been flirted with. She smiles at the flirtation. "That's always been my opinion. Or two." Her brow furrows as she realizes how that might sound. "Not that--I mean. Friends. A crowd. I mean. There was Willow and Xander back home." She'd gathered more people and more friends over the years, but Xander and Willow had always been her constants. He might not be a ladies man, but he is adorkable and Buffy thinks that's better. She doesn't have time for ladies men.

She's just as prone to foot-in-mouth disease so he'll get some slack when and if he does. "Yeah, they sort of ooze, don't they? I considered baby, but decided that one might be weirder than turtle. Also, I've heard babies can crawl pretty fast."

He almost laughs — almost — at that, but instead, his grin just gets bigger and after she backpedals for a second, he nods. He had a feeling that he knew what she meant but now he knows for sure. "I get you," he says after a moment, letting her off the hook.

"Yeah, no, baby would've been weird in that context, I feel like. Baby would've been a poor decision. We'll go with turtles," he agrees with a quiet laugh. "So what do you think, Buffy? Take pause and stay away from whatever the hell is going on out there for a little bit or are you spoiling for another fight with a robot? Because if I can find something to use for batting practice, I'm totally down with some bot destruction right about now."
